Welcome! You've found the B-side of my website: An Explanus for the Rest Of Us (with a nod to Frank Costanza's Festivus). In these pages I do my best to explain my research and the tools I use in an easily accessible way, and to provide a basic overview of insect flight. My hope is that this material will help more folks (ie: "the rest of us") understand the science we do in our lab, and why we think it's exciting stuff.
Want to know the difference between indirect and direct flight muscles in insects? Head on over to the flight page. Need a primer on Particle Image Velocimetry (who doesn't)? Check out the tools page. How about participating in a citizen-science project that studies fireflies? You'll find it on on the links page. And if you have any questions of your own, feel free to email me! I'll include your question and my answer in these pages, if possible.
Finally, a little housekeeping: The navigation tabs on the left will keep you within the B-side pages, unless you hit the A-side tab - which will take you back to my "official" website (where you'll find many more high speed insect movies).
